Our Business

What We Do

Our Services

At MIS, we create a variety of systems to support and facilitate marine assurance processes and decision-making. As well as developing bespoke systems, we provide operations and management services for outsourced systems, offer a series of off-the-shelf software products and provide a range of consultancy services within marine assurance IT.

Bespoke Development

We work with a number of oil majors to develop bespoke vetting systems that meet their specific business requirements.

An MIS Modular Vetting Platform separates the key elements of a traditional vetting system and considers each area individually by its key characteristics and requirements. Whilst some elements are industry generic, others areas will require customisation in line with an assurance group’s business rules, processes and practices. Further areas will be completely bespoke and custom.

Appreciating this separation allows us to develop systems from an appropriate balance of standardised modules and custom developments, which will increase the speed and efficiency of the system development process, benefit from tried and tested components and ultimately reduce the total cost of creation and ownership of the vetting system.

Recent projects include bespoke system development and infrastructure management for OCIMF and vetting system developments for Chevron and INEOS built upon our Marine Data Warehouse (MDW) foundation platform. These use a series of standardised and bespoke development systems to source, analyse, process and disseminate marine assurance data, creating full-scope vessel and operator fleet vetting systems with berth-to-berth journey planning and clearance.

Fleet Analysis

Our analysis and reporting product is MIS Fleet Analysis –  a powerful tool, which enables the statistical analysis of a fleet’s performance based upon automated feeds of vetting data such as inspections, particulars and crew data from SIRE as well as self-assessment documents from TMSA and port state and casualty records.

This helps OCIMF SIRE members to inform important marine assurance decisions through the analysis of data across a whole fleet, tracking trends and performance.

Fleet Analysis is a hosted system providing a zero footprint, immediately available environment connecting seamlessly to OCIMF’s SIRE web services interface. It complements existing marine assurance systems by directly accessing data previously purchased through SIRE and integrated systems and by providing an opportunity to perform a detailed analytical review of an operator’s fleet.

MIS Fleet Analysis enables users to:

  • Quickly view fleet operator statistics
  • Make key fleet observations linked to relevant TMSA KPIs
  • Plot the current location of the operator’s fleet
  • Analyse the current situation of the officer and engineer crew on-board
  • Access analysis charts and headline statistics for the vessels in the fleet

Marine Data Warehouse

The MIS Marine Data Warehouse (MDW) uses a highly configurable, fully featured and easy to operate vetting rules engine to automatically apply marine assurance rules and policies to vessels, barges, terminals and fleet operators.

The MDW provides a foundation platform upon which bespoke systems can be developed; offering numerous business benefits:

  • The risks of uncertainty, complexity, initial development cost and on-going ownership costs associated with the data aspects of typical marine assurance software projects are reduced;
  • The quality and efficiency of marine assurance decision making processes is improved by better assimilation and availability of complex data from multiple sources;
  • The traceability and accountability of data and decision making processes is improved through a fully audited change management process;
  • Marine assurance specialists are always aware of changes to vessels under contract and how that change could affect their suitability.

The MIS Marine Data Warehouse is a core MIS server platform, and so is subject to on-going development to remain abreast of Industry developments and changes.
