Captain Steve Barber

Captain Barber has a long and established maritime history, having entered into the industry as a deck cadet after leaving education.

For an extended period of his career, Captain Barber focused on the marine assurance aspects of the industry as the Global Manager of Shell’s vessel quality assurance (vetting) team, where, as part of his role, he oversaw the development of a berth-to-berth quality assurance system.

During this period, Captain Barber was also the Chair of OCIMF’s (Oil Companies International Marine Forum) SIRE Focus Group and continues to be a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

Having sailed on all types of oil and gas carriers, building up an extensive understanding and knowledge of the industry and its practices through hands-on learning and experience, Captain Barber will now support other industry professionals through the sharing of his marine assurance knowledge and expertise.

Using our specialist knowledge as software and web development experts, MIS has assisted the start-up by helping Captain Barber to establish an online presence through http://barbermaritime.com/.

We wish Captain Barber the best of luck in his venture and efforts to improve safety and quality standard across the marine industry.
